2678 Withdrawn from Traffic

A routine inspection of 2678 earlier this year revealed a number of areas of concern with the locomotive's motion. The K&ESR commissioned an independent engineering assessment and, following this expert advice, advised the Trust that the locomotive would be limited to light duties and monitored closely. Following the Best of British weekend a further inspection by the shed staff at Rolvenden revealed some further deterioration and the engine has been withdrawn from service. Trustees are liaising with the K&ESR and have requested further information and an outline plan for returning the locomotive to traffic.
