No 70 Suffers A Failure Whilst Visiting Bluebell Railway

Published: Wednesday, 03 August 2022 15:20

No 70 Poplar visited the Bluebell in late July for their event to mark Fenchurch's 150th Birthday. Unfortunately the overhaul of No 72  Fenchurch is taking longer than expected so the engine was not available to run trains.

No 70 Poplar suffered a serious failure of its motion while being operated by the Bluebell Railway on 29 July.  No one was injured.  It was immediately taken out of service.  The locomotive is 150 years old but has recently been fully overhauled.

The Terrier Trust owns 75% of the locomotive and the K&ESR 25%. The locomotive is maintained and operated by the K&ESR under a long-term agreement. The Railway also manages any hire contracts with other heritage lines.

The Trust has been advised that the K&ESR and Bluebell Railway will together be conducting a thorough investigation of the circumstances and awaits the outcome.
